EXFO vs Cisco: The Decision I Didn't Expect

Go with Cisco when:
- The switches need to serve dual purpose (both general traffic and some monitoring)
- You have a long lifecycle plan (5+ years) and need stable, widely-supported hardware
- Your team already has strong Cisco expertise and you don't want to train on a new vendor
For us, we went with a mixed approach: 6 EXFO switches for the dedicated monitoring deployment, and kept 2 Cisco switches for the general edge. That combination gave us the best of both worlds — and our total project budget came in 22% under initial estimates because we avoided the hidden costs.
